Bar Fight!

The Biscuits Gimar - Fighter 8th Level (PC)
Jaron - Paladin 2nd Level (PC)
Locale Foreign Quarter
Date 23rd of Ready'reat, 584 CY (Common Year)
Time Evening

Of all the biscuits, Gimar is most prepared to find information on the Temple of Elemental Evil. The Mayor of Northbank, Prudence Redstone, went on a few adventures there and was able to recall many details about the surrounding area. Jaron and the Axewielder first centered their questions on Hommlet and Nulb, two villages nearby the temple. What they found out was that while Hommlet was a thriving village, Nulb had not been heard from since some time during the war. In fact, the trade route that originally went through Nulb had been closed down in the war and never reopened. Some people speculated that Turrosh Mak's forces had moved into the area in and around Nulb, but others disagreed, saying that Nulb was too far north and the Gnarley Rangers would never stand for such an incursion.

Gimar Altogether a useful day of information gathering, but we will probably learn more in Verbobonc and Hommlet.
Jaron Aye.

The Biscuits Hannah - Mage 2nd Level (NPC)
Wed - Mage 2nd Level (NPC)
Locale Blue Dragon Inn
Date 25th of Ready'reat, 584 CY (Common Year)
Time Early evening

Hannah and Wed met at the Blue Dragon inn early one night to discuss their plans. Hannah has recently gained Wall of Fog, Fist of Stone, and Detect Undead, while Wed stuck with Detect Magic, Sleep, and Identify. Due to the level gain, each was able to memorize one additional spell, thus providing needed flexibility.

Wed I start learning Feather Fall tomorrow. What are you studying next?
Hannah Tenser's Floating Disc. I like your idea of each learning different spells, then learning from each other later. Very cost effective.
Wed Except Sleep.
Hannah Except Sleep, of course. But then, you will never cast Evocations as well as I, so I can live without sleep.
Wed Most adventurers do.

The Biscuits Gimar - Fighter 8th Level (PC)
Jaron - Paladin 2nd Level (PC)
Locale Silver Dragon Inn
Date 27th of Ready'reat, 584 CY (Common Year)
Time Late-Afternoon

Jaron met up with Gimar at the Silver Dragon Inn to report what he had found about he Battle of Emridy Meadows while digging through old texts at the Merecenaries Guildhall. Weapons and armor had been checked at the door. The pair had a table on the second floor, in the drinking hall.

Gimar It's so loud in here, I can barely hear myself think.
Jaron Yeah, but no head and foreclaws of a silver dragon. I think the Blue Dragon is the better place.
Gimar Be that as it may, this place has live music and more patrons. Anyhow, what did you find out about Emridy Meadows?
Jaron Contingents of men-at-arms and cavalry from Furyondy and Veluna, together with a force of dwarves from the Lortmils, gnomes from the Kron Hills, and an army of elven archers and spearmen fought together against a vast horde of evil men and humanoids (orcs, gnolls and ogres predominantly). The opposing forces met on the grassy fields south of the Velverdyva river several leagues below the city of Verbobonc. The allied forces were closing upon the stronghold of the evil creatures, a huge, walled fortress known as the Temple of Elemental Evil, not far from the unfortunate village of Hommlet, when elven scouts reported that a huge army was approaching from the south. The Marshall of Furyondy, leader of the combined forces, ordered a withdrawal northward to a position scouted earlier. Light cavalry skirmishes were sent out to screen the withdrawal, and no real fighting took place that day. When the horde of evil creatures marched forth next dawn they were confronted by the serried ranks of the allied army. The pikes of Furyondy and Veluna were arrayed so that their flank was secured by the Velverdyva; in the center were the banners of horse, and on the allied left were deployed bands of dwarves and gnomes, with a few units of elven archers placed in the intervals between. The humanoids fell immediately upon the left, while the men in the evil ranks rode to engage the center and right. The hordes of orcs, gnolls, and ogres thrust aside their hated foes and rushed to encircle the balance of the allied army. Thus the fatal trap was sprung, for the whole allied army pivoted, as squadrons of knights drove into the rear of the on-rushing horde of evil and squares of elves emerged from the Gnarley Forest on the Ieft. Trapped in this pocket with the bend of the Velverdyva at their backs and the human and demi-human army forming the chord of the arc, the packed mass of evil humans and humanoids fought hopelessly.

So great was the slaughter, so complete the victory of good that the walled stronghold of the Temple of Elemental Evil fell within a fortnight, despite the aid of a terrible demon. The place was ruined and sealed against a further return of such abomination by powerful blessings and magic. Only a few of the wicked leaders of the Temple managed to escape. When villagers saw streams of ochre-robed men and humanoids fleeing south and west through their community, there was great rejoicing for they knew that the murderous oppressors had been defeated and driven from the field in panic and rout.

Gimar Quite a story. If it's true.
Patron #1 (leaning over) Well I heard that the Dwarves didn't actually fight, just tended the mess tent.
Gimar And a fine job that would . . . hey, what do you mean by that remark?
Patron #4 Just that dwarves are sissies, that's all.

Gimar's reply was cut short as a pottery mug flew through the air, smashing against his thick dwarven skull.

Gimar I am going to try to remain calm . . . (crash) alright, that does it.

Sarana Your training is nearly complete. You have been a most capable student in the priestly arts.
G'Leina Thank you for all of your time and effort. Now, another subject . . .
Sarana Ah yes, the mace. I have found a party that wishes to use that scroll you have given me, and she agreed to trade a mace for it. Here it is.

Sarana went over to a nearby cabinet and extracted an iron mace, with an iron shaft. To G'Leina's dissapointment, it looked very ordinary.

G'Leina I was hoping for a magically enchanted mace . . .
Sarana Have you no faith, G'Leina? This mace IS enchanted [DM: +1] and has another useful feature besides. When struck against a locked door, it will open that door, even if it is double locked and barred. This ability functions but twice per day.
G'Leina (grinning ear to ear) Thank you again!

The party ate and drank and discussed their plans, which started out by heading west. Fresh supplies would be delivered to the stable in the morning, and all the training was completed. Rheaphlyndar had distributed the parties share of the art works, and Gimar was again telling the story of how Jaron gave him a black eye. G'Leina was showing her new weapon to the two mages, who looked on in awe. Just then, Sarana arrived.

Jaron (bowing) Welcome, matriarch. You may have my seat if you wish.
Sarana No time for that now, warrior. Our dwarven engineers have returned from the Mistmarsh, and they indicated to me that the tower was occupied!
G'Leina (crestfallen) No, that cannot be. We destroyed the vampires completely!
Sarana Ah, have no fear of vampires. The dwarves tell me that this group looks more like Brigands or perhaps Mages.
Gimar Then we shall deal with them in the appropriate manner, if they dare to squat in a tower of evil. We leave first thing in the morning for the Mistmarsh.

The group nods assent, and Sarana indicates she will send the engineers along with the party, to begin demolition as soon as the tower is vacant.
