It was Gimar who first came to his senses, really.

Gimar Hey, what's going on here? And how did I get up here?

The Dwarven Warrior was perched somewhat precariously at least eighteen feet up, over a door at the eastern edge of the room. Seeing all the various fungi, Gimar's memory began to return.

Gimar Say, this is the 'shroom room, where we defeated the Lamia. But where's the rest of the party? And how the heck . . .

Losing his tenuous grip on the wall, the stout Dwarf plummeted to the floor, breaking his fall with a large specimen of shelf fungus.

Sitting underneath a mushroom, he saw a large bird. No, wait, that was Nicola, covered in feathers. Over near the west wall and the room's entrance, he spotted Rheaphlyndar. The thief was cavorting about wearing nothing but a very thin rubbery substance.

Gimar Nicola, wake up, I need your help here.
Nicola Squawk!
Gimar Rheaphlyndar, come help me over here.
Rheaphlyndar (sproing sproing sproing) I'm a cat burglar. Have you seen Catherine Zeta-Jones?
Gimar Look you two, snap out of it. We need to get out of this fungal forest.
Nicola Chirp, er, good morning Gimar.
Rheaphlyndar Nice feathers (squinting) too bad they're not real.
Gimar Ah, so this is an illusion. Where's that mage?

The threesome headed north in the vaguely triangular room, towards a bubbling fountain on the north wall. Sitting nearby was Jaron, looking for all the world like a candelabra -- the burnt stubs of multiple candles were affixed to his armor and helm. He was smoking a large cigarette.

Jaron (puff puff) Hey, keep those feathers away from me!
Gimar Paladin, snap out of it. This is just an illusion.

Rheaphlyndar, his eyepatch moved to the other eye, indicates that the candles and cigarette were real. To the southeast a diagonal corridor ran to a wall. A wall of stone. And sitting by that and giggling softly was the mage.

Gimar Come on, let's get going. Where's John McClane?
Wed I haven't seen him. Hey Jaron, how's the smoke?
Jaron Oh, not bad, not bad.
Wed (grinning) Yak dung. Tastes good, like a cigarette should.
Nicola So, has anybody seen John McClane?

Nobody had seen him since the battle. Wed got up and joined the group, dispelling the illusions. The Biscuits searched the fungal room high and low.

Gimar Well, he's either already left or he's behind that door or that wall. We seem to be fully healed by our time here in the fungal garden. Should we see if we can find him?
Jaron Aye.
Rheaphlyndar Sure.
Nicola Can't see why not.
Wed I guess it's unanimous. Which first?
Gimar The door is going to be easier to check. Rheaph?
Rheaphlyndar (kneeling by the door) Already on it. No traps, and I can't see a lock mechanism. It's clear.

The door was swollen somewhat from the humidity of the forest room, and it took some work. But eventually it popped open, and a corridor was found, leading east. The party followed that corridor for fifty feet or so and discovered a long staircase, leading down and out of the light.

Rheaphlyndar I am going to guess that he didn't go this way.
Gimar Let's go back and check the wall.

The party quickly dismantled the temporary stone wall, possibly erected by Gimar in the previous days. The corridor continued to the southeast, and Gimar's axe was the only light source. Up ahead, there was the edge of a round room which was lit, and a stone statue could be seen in the opening. It carried a staff.

Nicola Gimar, you shouldn't have.
Gimar Shhhh, we don't know if that's him. Plus, there could be monsters ahead.

Due precautions were taken as the group advanced slowly. The round room proved to be some forty feet in diameter, and lit by four weirdly glowing cressets of ancient bronze. Within the room were ten monstrous statues, whose stony visages were still able to cause a start of fear. Gimar identified all the figures, as he had fought their kind before. The one in the near alcove proved to be a mummy, holding a staff in one hand and a ceramic bottle in the other. Also around the room were a smallish blue dragon, a beholder, a manticore, a medusa, an ogre mage, a wight, a rakshasa, a fire giant, and finally a recognizable figure -- "Little" John McClane.

Other exits from the room were to the north and east.
