Episode 69
Jailbreak!

The Biscuits Dollin - Druid 7th Level (PC)
Locale A Jail in Nellix Town
Date 10th day of Reaping, 585 CY (Common Year)
Time later afternoon

Dollin found himself quickly ushered into the local jail and down a flight of stone steps. Being inside of buildings didn't make him feel that great, and even worse when he couldn't walk out again. His weapons and equipment were removed, along with his small pouch of treasure.

The cell he was ushered into was fairly clean and cool, and most of it was below ground level. He could see only a small window leading outside, and as he heard the door slam shut and lock, he began considering his methods of escape.

The bars on the windows were spaced two to three inches apart, and as he thought to himself "they haven't caged many druids, have they?" he heard a stirring in the far corner.

Voice Hello? Who's there?

Dollin looked around, but he had obviously missed something in the deep shadows of the prison cell. In the corner he spied a moving figure. He decided to answer in common and the druid's secret language.

Dollin {You may call me Dollin.} Why are you here?
Voice Paradin' without a permit. {I am initiate of the third circle Mistin.}
Dollin {Of the Celadon, I presume? What's this all about?}
Mistin {Yes. It seems a new Green Dragon has moved into the Celadon and is raiding outwards to the civilized lands. They blame us, saying we summoned it.}
Dollin {Preposterous!}
Mistin {I agree. Last I heard, the council of the Thorn decided the dragon was a menace to be removed. So you see, we are all on the same side!}
Dollin {Not of these bars we aren't. So, Mistin, how long have you been down here?}
Mistin {A couple of days, and pretty crappy food. They keep insisting on bringing me well-done meat patties.
Dollin {Prison cuisine has never been known to be all that satisfying.}
Mistin {So, greater druidic brother, what do we do now?}
Dollin {Well, Mistin, unless they were smart enough to guard against a ferret from getting out, i have a way . . . but im not sure what we can do about you my friend.}
Mistin {True, I cannot leave. Still, I am none the worse than if you had not shown up.}
Dollin {What do i know about this city, Nellix?}
Mistin {Nellix is a learned town, but there is also a branch of the "skeptics" here - people who believe there are no gods.}
Dollin {One thing for sure Mistin, I can do nothing from this cell. Does anyone know you are here?}
Mistin {Certain of my brothers in the forest, but Druids are a fickle lot - they may not look for anumber of days.}
Dollin {Do you know of any plans on the druids part to be rid of the dragon?}
Mistin {The council of the thorn is sure to be debating this. I believe few of our brethren are tough enough, so we will probably have to seek outside help.}
Dollin {I happen to know of an adventuring group, who are inthe area...I'll wager we can enlist their aid.}
Mistin {Good luck then, and I can give you a boost up to the window if you like.}
Dollin {I give you my word, Mistin, I will do what I can to get you out of here.}

With that, Dollin shifted to the form of a ferret and crawled up on Mistin's shoulder. Quick as a wink he was out the bars and running down an alley. At the end of the alley was a busy street, and Dollin was fairly sure he had been spotted by one of the constables, who was moving towards him.

The druid ducked down another alley and jumped up onto an empty barrel, then shifted form again to that of a wren, taking to the sky instantly. He smiled to himself, resisting the urge to let one fly on the constable's balding head.

Dollin swooped over the city, looking for any sign of the biscuits. Noticing something familiar in the marketplace, he dove down towards a tall knight in blindingly gold armor.

Jaron Blessed light, I think that bird got me.
Nicola (snickering) Hey, it headed down that alley, and it looked like it had a hurt wing. I'd better go see if you hurt it.
Jaron I didn't swipe it that hard. It's a good thing I didn't have Scather drawn . . .

Nicola arrived in the alley just in time to see Jaron shifting into view in front of her. Jaron showed up shortly after, and quickly noticed that Dollin was wearing nothing but his skivvies.

Jaron What's the matter, Dollin, you get mugged?

The druid proceeded to tell of his arrest and the ultimate reason behind it. He then assured that he would return the next morning, after discussing the situation with the local druidic council.

Nicola purchased him a set of travelling clothes and he was off for the forest.

Time morning

As the Biscuit sat down to a sumptuous breakfast of fruits, eggs, and, well, biscuits, they discussed what they knew of dragons. Which wasn't much. Just before they were done with their meal, Dollin arrived.

Dollin Hail, Biscuits, I hope you saved some for me?
Gimar Always plenty. What news?
Dollin I bumped into a runner just outside the forest, and she filled me in on the latest. The council is looking for a few good men, and would prefer to handle it without the help of the Duchy of Urnst.
Rheaphlyndar Trying to avoid a favor, eh?
Dollin As I understand it. So, shall we go for it?
Jaron (raising a glass) To the Biscuits!
Gimar Here here!

Time late afternoon

Nicola and Rheaphlyndar checked the local alchemist to see if a potion of Green Dragon control could be found, but with no luck. The party then headed into the forest, leaving their mounts in the best stables in town. With Dollin to guide them, they made good time as they headed south.

Nicola Dollin, are we going to get to see your folks on this route?
Dollin Probably not, since they live more to the east. But we will get back that way soon enough.

Gimar and Jaron discussed battle tactics, and Wed talked with Little John about keeping to one side of the battle, so he, Nicola, and Yodavan could fire off their various missile spells.

The party camped that night under the open stars, with no campfire to alert the dragon that his new territory was being invaded. Little John was sure he saw a dark shape fly overhead during his watch, but he had no fear of it.

The next morning the Biscuits continued south, and Dollin reported a disturbing calm in the forest. Around lunch time, they came to a recently cleared area where the vegatation had been mashed down by a large weight.

Rheaphlyndar spotted the cave first, a large hole in the ground to one side of the unnatural clearing. He moved quietly over and eventually into the hole. Several long moments later, he popped his head up again and gave the "all clear" signal.

The whole party began to move around the edge of the clearing when a powerful cry was heard in the near distance. The dragon was returning!
