The hulking ogre, Kefta Bil'Beera, sat under the large ipp tree. Or maybe it was an ipt? What did he care? It was a nice evening, he had a keg of beer and the uninterrupted time to finish it. Say, who was coming down the western road? A fairly large party of adventurers. Well, he was a fairly large ogre . . .

Kefta Halt! You must pay the toll. (sniffing) In beer.
Jaron One ogre? (laughing)
Gimar (frowning) Get the hell out of the way.
Kefta Laugh while you can, monkey boy!

Surprising everybody, the hulking ogre leapt forward and swung his great sword in a tight arc. The thin cleric was cut quickly in two, and Kefta landed with cat-like grace on the near bank.

Reacting to this sudden strike, the warriors of the party quickly drew arms. Gimar's weapon, suddenly a hand-axe, flew through the air towards the ogre.

Kefta (catching the axe) Hmmm, thank you, but no. My weapon is much larger.

The enraged dwarven warrior then charged from one side, while Little John vaulted in from the other. The magic of Little John's staff enabled him to take the first swing, but the ogre's blade was effectively blocking. With a mighty Crack! the staff was split in two.

Kefta (now blackened from the explosion) Some punch. Who's next?
Dollin (casting a spell) You'll not deal with the tree so easily.

The hulking ogre stepped aside as a branch looped down to entangle him, and cut it neatly from the trunk. In the process, he stepped aside as Gimar charged past, wielding a battle axe.

Reacting with blinding speed, the Ogre leapt again towards Jaron, cutting him from the saddle. As the paladin fell, his blade seemed to take a final whack at Kefta's side, and scored. Blackened blood spilled from the wound.

Nicola (looking for biscuits to heal) That monster can't take much more of this punishment.
Kefta (grinning) Well, I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't under such heavy sedation.

At once the ogre spun, blood flying one way and it's sword slashing the other, and Wed fell as he stood. The dying magic faded from his hands, the spell lost forever.

Gimar glanced around - Little John, Jaron, Wed, and Lemuel were out. He himself was injured, but not badly. Rheaph was nowhere to be seen, but he figured that was a good sign. Dollin seemed to be working another magic, but where was Yodavan? Ah . . .

Yodavan Deal with me you must!
Kefta You've got to be kidding, right? My sword is twice as long as you are tall.
Yodavan Size not . . . Aaugh!

Faster than lightning the ogres great sword had split the gnome in twain. On the back stroke he parried another axe shot from Gimar, then spun again to meet Dollin, in the form of a great bear.

Kefta Druids. Well, if I must.

Leaping again, the ogre landed behind the black bear and cut it down where it stood. In an ironic twist, Rheaphlyndar dropped from the branches of the tree straight on to the ogre's broad back. The rogues dagger plunged deep between the ogre's ribs, and his only response was to fall backwards.

Rheaphlyndar Urk!
Kefta It will take more than that little thing to kill me, flat thief. Now where'd that dwarf go?
Nicola Die, creature of darkness!

Nicola chose that moment to land a devastating blow from her magical mace. The ogre reeled, but as he was used to this condition he was able to shift his blade into a blocking position.

Kefta Bil'beera managed to parry both Gimar and Nicola effectively for the next couple of minutes. When the dwarven warrior fumbled his shot, Kefta turned and finished Nicola in two quick strokes. He then turned back towards the now prone Gimar Axewielder.

Kefta Come on, little man, get up. I can tell you are hiding beer, I can smell it.

Come on, get up.
Come on, wake up.
Wake up!

At Dollin's insistance, Gimar roused himself from slumber. What a foolish dream!
