The Biscuits left the Rieuwood, stepping onto the fertile plain. Not far to the south, the Pawluck river wended it's way to the east. To the southeast, just on the horizon, was a lazy drift of smoke.

Gimar Say, good farmer, what town lies yonder?
Farmer Whall, that way be the town of Dunn.
Gimar Good harvest to you, then.

The farmer turned back to his fields. Though the smell was nearly masked by Gimar's ring, this farmer's crop of choice was hops.

The party travelled roughly southeast, eventually reaching a road which led more or less east. A travelling merchant set them straight - they had been on the path of a farmer burning his fields.

Gimar Well I didn't know.
Nicola Yeah, that's the kind of stuff Dollin would know.
Jaron Where is that wayward druid, anyhow?
Yodavan Sought friends in the woods, he did.
Wed Patriarch, are you enjoying the journey so far?

The holy man only grunted, his attention elsewhere for the moment. Perhaps it was on the hot weather, what one of the farmers had referred to as a "Flan Summer".

The party made good time on the road, reaching Dunn shortly before dinner. This was the largest town they had been in since leaving Irongate, and most agreed a night in a bed wouldn't be a bad thing.

Gimar And a beer wouldn't be bad either. I hope Dollin can find us.
Jaron He just has to watch for the bar fights.
Gimar Hey, didn't you start the last one?
Jaron I won't dignify that accusation with a response.

Nicola gave an involuntary snicker, drawing a reproachful look from the paladin. Wed pointed out an establishment that Dollin could very likely find, the Bark Tavern. Eventually all agreed that a whistle wetting was not a bad idea.

Over dinner the party reminesced about their recent adventures. So far they had battled a group of spiders, a squad of hobgoblins, and a small group of ogres, all with good success. Treasure had been slight, however, just covering their meal and lodgings for the night.

Rheaphlyndar It's like the woods were practically civilized.
Wed Dollin mentioned something about that. Maybe that's why he took off on his own.
Gimar That's the third time this afternoon we've mentioned him. Isn't that the ritual for a summoning?
Jaron (instinctively brushing at his armor) Well I hope not.

The paladin then turned to see a raccoon perched in the window, examining him with an almost human stare. The raccoon jumped out of sight, and just a minute later, Dollin walked into the bar.

Dollin Nice bar. Catchy name.
Gimar (smiling) Welcome back, Dollin. Were you listening long?
Dollin (feigning innocence) Who, me? Say, is that a Banthor's you've got there.
Gimar Nope, it's a local seasonal brew. Osson's Lager, I think.
Rheaphlyndar Who's Osson?

A travelling bard, hearing the query, sat and regaled them with a tale of Almor's Commandant Osson, a leader of warriors and the savior of Sunndi. When he was finished he moved on, a shiny platinum piece richer for his storytelling.

Gimar That song certainly explains the broken bits of armor we saw. Does his tune match up with what you saw, Dollin?
Dollin Yes, my brothers told me of similar stories. It could hardly have been a fair fight, the way they can aim a bow.
Jaron (snorting) Fighting for the good? What of the balance?
Dollin Have you not seen the demons, holy warrior? I have, even within the sylvan forest. Evil is on the rise, and must be eliminated to restore the balance. Then (smiling) we'll talk about the other side of the coin.
Rheaphlyndar Did someone mention coin? There's a game starting up in the next room. If you'll excuse me . . .
Nicola What makes you think you can out shark the locals?
Rheaphlyndar These guys? I'd bet my hands on it.
Yodavan Now that I've got to see.

The rogue went off to play, with Yodavan trailing behind. Patriarch Lemuel and Little John excused themselves as well, obviously thinking of other things.

Gimar ordered another round and Dollin told the assembled company of the elven druids and the sacred grove and it's truly ancient oak tree.

After another round and plans made for the next days travel, even the devoted core of the Biscuits hit the hay.

Time Morning

Breakfast was served at the Bark, and the whole party made it down on time. The food was spicy fair, although tame by Rheaphlyndar's tastes, and consisted of various shredded vegetables and meats on a flatbread "burrito". After chowing down, Gimar brought up the topic of travel.

Gimar So, where to next?
